Readers are thinkers!

Reading is all about comprehending. What can you do to help your child comprehend what they are reading?

From the time children begin to be read to, all the way through the time they become independent readers, comprehension is key! When reading to or with your child it is helpful to talk about what is being read. Make it conversational, not quizzical. Talk about events in the story, discuss character's and their feelings, and make predictions about what you think will happen next or later in the story. Share your own ideas - you are a model for your child. Remember to explain your thinking and ask your child, "What makes you think that?"

Reading is thinking and comprehension is the key!!!
