Reading Bags November 2017

What’s big and colorful,
comes home everyday in your child’s backpack,
and is filled with personalized treasures?
It’s your child’s reading bag!

The reading bag is an easy way for teachers to communicate with you about what your child is working on in school. The reading bag contains practice materials for you and your child to review each night. The materials sent home have been reviewed in school and your child should be comfortable with what they are practicing. If it’s an activity, they should be able to explain how they did it at school. If it’s a book, they are asked to reread at home for practice. This practice is important. In addition to improving your child’s skills, it also allows you to see the progress they are making.

The personalized treasures found inside the reading bag are designed to support your child’s learning. Each child goes home with materials that are put there specifically for them. Thank you for supporting your child by taking the time to review these treasures with your child each night.

"Reading should not be presented to children as a chore or duty.

It should be offered to them as a precious gift." — Kate DiCamillo
